Why I Love RPGs

Over the last year I’ve run/played in several games – Fallout, Star Trek, Sentinel Comics, D&D, Stars Without Numbers, Conan, Shadow of the Demon Lord, Alien, Forbidden Lands, Twilight 2000, Stargate and probably a few I missed.  Usually 6-7 games per week between playing and running.  So let’s say on average 5 games a week.  That’s 20 hours a week, 52 weeks a year.

Conservatively (very conservatively), with my friends, we’ve created over 1000 hours of entertainment for each other. The entire MCU + Lord of the Rings (extended) + Harry Potter doesn’t even come close. We told stories that are the equivalent of dozens of seasons of a TV show (22 episodes) and significantly more that a streaming show.  Stories went in exciting directions, characters died, hard decisions were made, friendships were tested and drama was plentiful.

And we did it together. With rare exceptions you can’t play RPGs alone.
So here’s to more games in 2022 and beyond. I’d much rather play a game with people than passively watch TV.
